KETAMINE FOR CHRONIC PAIN

Ketamine infusion therapy is a viable option for managing chronic pain. If you or a loved one is suffering from chronic pain, consider adding ketamine infusion therapy to your pain management program.

THE DIFFICULTY OF MANAGING PAIN

Chronic pain affects over 50 million people in the United States. Chronic pain can be particularly difficult to manage and can be resistant to many treatment modalities. Opiate medications often fail to provide sustained relief and, over time, may result in substance dependence. Ketamine infusion therapy offers patients with intractable pain a safe and sustainable alternative.

Approved by the FDA in 1970 as an anesthetic, ketamine is an NMDA receptor antagonist that alters glutamate processing in the central nervous system, resulting in neuroplastic changes and neuronal growth for eradication of pain or improved pain control. When administered by trained professionals in subanesthetic doses, a series of 8-12 intravenous (IV) ketamine infusion may provide long-term analgesic effects up to three months.

One on one therapy for depression and anxiety - Neuro Wellness Spa Southern California

THE NEURO WELLNESS SPA PROCESS

At Neuro Wellness Spa, patients are treated in a comfortable, outpatient environment. The average length for a course of treatment is between 4 and 14 days. Each infusion lasts approximately 45 minutes, and the dosage is based on the patient’s weight. An IV is inserted into the arm, wrist, or hand, and a therapeutic dose is delivered at a slow, controlled rate.

During the infusion, blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation are monitored. Patients will experience a mild dissociative sensation. Following the infusion, patients may experience side effects such as blurred vision, feelings of lightness, and, rarely, headache or nausea. These feelings subside quickly and patients leave without any side effects. Patients require transportation after each infusion and are unable to operate heavy equipment for the following 24 hours. The infusions are well tolerated, and patients typically experience results within days or even hours.
