Neuro Wellness Spa is pleased to offer a new treatment modality for enhanced brain function. Our photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy in Los Angeles stimulates, protects, and repairs the brain on a cellular level.
What is Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy?
Photobiomodulation is a non-invasive, non-thermal therapy which stimulates cells to generate more energy and undergo self-repair through the use of near infrared light (NIR). Also known as low-level light (or laser) therapy, PBM has no side effects. Occasionally, first time users may experience a transient headache, dry throat, or tiredness, although the majority of patients report an improvement in their level of energy.
What can PBM treat?
Using light to stimulate brain activity may sound far-fetched, but it shouldn’t. After all, science unanimously agrees that UV light from the sun on our skin stimulates Vitamin D production. More than 40% of the sun’s light waves come from healthy, NIR wavelengths. Established research documents that PBM is indicated and helpful for:
- Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Cognitive enhancement
- Cognitive impairment from trauma, injury, etc.
- Depression, anxiety, and mood disorders
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Global Ischemia
How does PBM work?
Mitochondria are energy factories that exist in nearly all of our cells including neurons (brain cells). Several positive results occur when the cytochrome-C oxidase (CCO) within the mitochondria absorbs red and near infrared light. First, the CCO absorption of the light increases production of ATP (adenosine tryphosphate) by way of the respiratory chain (mitochondria core). ATP is a signaling molecule that leads to healing and tissue repair. Second, the ATP generates a mild oxidant (ROS) that signals for cellular repair. Third, production of ATP releases nitric oxide (NO) which results in improved blood circulation, cellular function, and cellular network communication.
What is the Vielight Neuro?
The Vielight Neuro is a home use device made to deliver red and near infrared light to the brain via two pathways. Red light is applied transcranially over the brain’s default mode network (DMN). Near infrared light is applied intranasally. Intranasal application provides close proximity to the brain and is devoid of light barriers such as dense hair and skin. Not everyone can afford a Vielight device for home use, and others want to experience the positive results for themselves before making the investment. Neuro Wellness Spa is pleased to provide the Vielight Neuro device for convenience and wellbeing.
What to expect?
A typical PBM session lasts 20 minutes and the typical protocol occurs five times per week for 2 weeks. Maintenance therapy proceeds at a frequency that depends on the illness being treated and the severity of illness. A technician will seat you in a comfortable chair and give a brief cognitive assessment before treatment. During the Vielight you will perform computer cognitive games.
To maximize results patients often combine PBM with other Neuro Wellness Spa services, such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and IV Nutrition/NAD therapies. In such a case, your PBM session can take place before or after other treatments. The psychiatrist will work closely with you to determine your personalized treatment plan. Your wellness is our highest priority.
