How does mental health genetic testing work?
Genetic testing is done through a saliva test. The sample can be collected in two ways: in-person at a Neuro Wellness Spa clinic with your provider, or at home if ordered by your Neuro Wellness Spa provider. Before taking the test, you must be NPO — “nothing by mouth” — for 45 minutes (this includes no smoking, no water, no chewing gum, no food, etc). The test will take about 5 to 10 minutes to complete from start to finish.
What conditions do mental health genetic testing work for?
Genetic tests for mental health work for a variety of mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other mental health conditions that:
- Require dose adjustments.
- Are less likely to work.
- Have an increased risk of side effects based on your DNA.
How long does it take to get my results?
Once the genetic testing center (Tempus or Genomind) receives your saliva sample, it takes approximately 8 to14 days to sequence and generate your report. The report is delivered to your Neuro Wellness Spa provider.
Is mental health genetic testing covered by insurance?
Most major insurance policies cover some or all of the cost of the tests we use at Neuro Wellness Spa.

It is important to talk to your Neuro Wellness Spa provider to find out if a genetic test is right for you! If you have not had success in finding a medication or dose combination that works well for managing your mental health, genetic testing may be able to help.
