How we can help treat your depression

Depression and related disorders affect millions annually. We collaborate closely with you to identify the most effective treatment, whether it involves medication, therapy, or non-medication options like TMS.

Our psychiatrists, therapists, and other mental health experts work with you to address the core issues impacting your mental health and help you build the skills and resources to manage your depression.

Medication management for depression

Our psychiatrists are here to help you determine whether medication could be an effective approach for your depression treatment. There are many different depression medications available that can significantly improve your quality of life, including:

  • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs): These are considered the gold standard of depression medications. Low serotonin levels can trigger or exacerbate depression symptoms, and SSRIs work by regulating this chemical in the brain.
  • Serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs): SNRIs are usually prescribed when depression is co-occurring with other conditions such as anxiety or chronic pain, or if you are experiencing a decreased libido. SNRIs regulate norepinephrine levels in the brain.
  • Norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitors (NDRIs): A newer class of antidepressants that typically comes with less side effects. NDRIs may be prescribed when SSRIs or SNRIs are not providing adequate relief or are producing adverse side effects.
  • Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs): While considered a very effective class of antidepressants, TCAs often come with many side effects. This class is typically reserved as a last line of treatment when all other alternatives — such as SSRIs and SNRIs — have failed.

TMS therapy for depression

Our therapists are masters-level clinicians who are committed to your well-being. We’ll curate a personalized plan for your depression that works for you, and our therapists can leverage several modalities to treat depression, including:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): This therapy focuses on identifying negative thought patterns and teaching you to reframe them into more positive and healthier ones. By progressively replacing dysfunctional thoughts with productive ones, CBT encourages you to rewrite your own internal monologue and reengage with the core values that may have gotten lost during your struggles with depression.
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): DBT skills including mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness can help alleviate depression symptoms.
  • Psychoeducation: Our mental health experts can help you understand the factors driving your symptoms, effective treatment options, and healthy coping strategies. These strategies include implementing structured routines, maintaining proper diet and exercise, and practicing quality sleep hygiene.
  • Exposure and response prevention (ERP): While primarily used for OCD and phobias, ERP can help when depression has led to social isolation, social anxiety, or avoidance behaviors. It involves gradually facing feared situations while resisting the urge to avoid them, helping you rebuild confidence and social connections.
  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT): Depression and negative thought patterns can alter your perception of your identity and sense of self. ACT works by encouraging you to accept your emotions for what they are, commit to making decisions that are more aligned with your core values, and distance yourself from unhelpful thoughts.

Whether your treatment plan involves CBT, DBT, ERP, or another therapeutic modality, you will have the flexibility to meet with your therapist either in-person or virtually, ensuring you will have access to the personalized support and care you need.
