Dr. Martha Koo, M.D.
Founder/Medical Director Manhattan Beach
Dr. Martha B. Koo, M.D., completed her undergraduate studies at Princeton University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, and her medical training at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where she earned membership to the AOA and Sigma Xi Society for academic excellence. Dr. Koo obtained her psychiatry residency training at the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Institute at UCLA and her subsequent psychoanalytic training at the New Center for Psychoanalysis. She is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Board Certified in Addiction Medicine. For over twenty years Dr. Koo has enjoyed her private practice, providing outpatient psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and pharmacological treatment for individuals, couples and families. A pioneer in the development and application of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), Dr. Koo opened the South Bay TMS Therapy Center in 2009. She is certified in the application of Neurostar rTMS, Brainsway Deep TMS and MagVenture rTMS Therapy. South Bay TMS has evolved into the Neuro Wellness Spa, where Dr. Koo is Medical Director and offers iv ketamine, iv nutrition and photobiomodulation along with rTMS therapy. She is on the Board of Directors of the Clinical TMS Society. Additionally, Dr. Koo is the Medical Director and Clinical Supervisor at Clear Recovery Center. She is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association, the New Center for Psychoanalysis, the Clinical TMS Society, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Society of Ketamine Physicians, the California Psychiatric Society and the Southern California Psychiatric Society. She is also a guest lecturer at the New Center for Psychoanalysis and the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.
Dr. Simon Faynboym, M.D.
Medical Director South Torrance
Dr. Simon Faynboym was born in Ukraine and immigrated to California at a very young age. Growing up in California, he had a drive to serve the underprivileged and decided to become a physician. Dr. Faynboym currently practices Psychiatry and TMS at Neuro Wellness Spa. Dr. Faynboym earned two Bachelor of Science Degrees, his first in Genetics and the second in Food Biochemistry. He graduated in the top of his class and continued thereafter to get his masters training in Biomedical Sciences at Midwestern University for a year, before heading off to Medical School.
Dr. Faynboym attended Medical School at SGU School of Medicine with clinical rotations in New York and California. Dr. Faynboym then attended Indiana University School of Medicine-Purdue University Indianapolis Hospital System for his internship and residency in Psychiatry.
Dr. Faynboym has been politically involved in Indiana State Medical Association leading to his service as a Trustee for several years. He has been chosen to sit in the House of Delegates for the American Medical Association, is part of the American Psychiatric Association and is part of the Pain and Palliative Caucus.”
Dr. Josh Lichtman, D.O.
Medical Director North Torrance
Dr. Josh Lichtman has been practicing psychiatry for the last decade. He is dual board certified in both adult psychiatry and addiction medicine.
He is passionate about mindfulness practice and psychiatry and is constantly trying to blend the two. Although he primarily focuses on TMS and psychopharmacology, he is trained in various modalities of psychotherapy including CBT, DBT, EMDR, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. He is a clinical instructor at UCLA, and has been selected to be on the list for Southern California Super Doctors for 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, and 2015.
Dr. Han Lee, M.D.
Dr. Han Lee, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist, cancer survivor, and world traveler. Dr. Lee graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in Biology and performed research in Exercise Physiology. He completed residency at the VCU – Medical College of Virginia Campus where he obtained a certificate of excellence in medical student teaching in 2017. Dr. Lee joined INOVA Health system in the Northern Virginia area to provide mental health services for a wide array of patients residing in the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia area.
Dr. Tulsie Patel, M.D.
Dr. Tulsie Patel graduated Cum Laude from Drexel University and attended the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Texas Southwestern where she served as Chief Resident.
She has published numerous articles and book chapters on various topics within the fields of psychiatry, dermatology, and psychodermatology.
She is passionate about medical journalism. During her residency training, she worked at ABC News in New York City as a member of their medical unit. She provided consultation on medical stories for programs includingWorld News with David Muir and Good Morning America, published multiple articles on the websites for ABC News and Good Morning America, and did on-air expert interviews on medical topics. She most recently participated in a Facebook Live interview for Mental Health Half Hour to discuss depression and anxiety during the Covid-19 pandemic.
She is also committed to volunteer work. She has previously worked at numerous clinics in the United States, India, South Africa, and Namibia. She has also helped construct homes and schools in some of those communities.
Emily Pedersen, M.P.H., M.Ed.
Director of Clinical Development
Emily Pedersen is the Director of Clinical Development for Neuro Wellness Spa. She holds a Master’s degree in Education and a Master of Public Health degree with a certificate in health inequities from Johns Hopkins University.
As a former educator with a strong professional background in public health research, Emily has extensive experience partnering with communities to improve health and educational outcomes. She has served as a teacher, team-lead and professional curriculum developer for Baltimore City Public Schools as well as a senior research coordinator for the Johns Hopkins Department of Epidemiology.
Emily is passionate about reducing disparities in health care. She finds nothing more rewarding than meeting with local practitioners, developing partnerships, solving problems and increasing access to services, particularly for those in need of compassionate mental health treatment.
Patient Care Manager
Jennifer Minton is the center’s Lead Technician and a fully certified rTMS Technician. A native of Southern California, she graduated from Harbor College.
Jennifer has over 19 years of clinical care experience as a dental, medical and surgical assistant. Having worked in both private practice and hospital settings, with diverse patient populations in a wide variety of medical specialties, Jennifer is an expert in comprehensive patient care.
She is fully trained in the application of both Neurostar TMS and Brainsway deep TMS Therapy as well as a trained NEBA provider for brainwave-based ADHD testing. Jennifer is ACLS, BLS and CPR certified.
Jana Bright, R.N.
Jana graduated from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with distinction. She has a wide range of nursing experience, starting her career as a Nurse Specialist in the post anesthesia care unit (PACU) and most recently working in pediatrics.
She recently relocated to the South Bay and feels incredibly fortunate to have joined the Neuro Wellness Spa team as a fully certified TMS Technician. Working to improve the lives of others is a core value for Jana and was a key factor for her in choosing nursing as a career.
As a part of the Neuro Wellness Spa team she has the opportunity to help bring about positive change in patients lives on a daily basis, which makes her very happy.
Lead TMS Technician North Torrance
Jessica was raised in Orange County where she lived until recently, when she moved to Indian Wells to join the Neuro Wellness Palm Desert team as a fully certified TMS Technician. She’s spent many years working in the healthcare field where she developed a passion for helping others to get well. Outside of work, Jessica dedicates her time to mentoring women, encouraging and assisting them in becoming the best version of themselves.
Jessica most enjoys the one on one time she gets to spend with patients, getting to know them and watching their lives transform!
In her free time, Jessica enjoys sailing, hiking and traveling.
Lead TMS Technician South Torrance
Kristin was born and raised in the South Bay. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Southern California. She has over 20 years of management experience in small business and has worked in a variety of industries with customer care as her highest priority. She has mentored and supervised many and truly enjoys the process of helping others pursue their unique personal development.
She is passionate about teaching natural solutions that support both physical and emotional wellness. She is an essential oil educator and wellness advocate with a special interest in how essential oils assist in healing. She is a fully certified Mag Venture Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Technician, treating patients with a conscious understanding of Neuro-wellness. She is honored and excited to grow with the team at Neuro Wellness Spa.
Beck was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He moved to Los Angeles in 2015 to attend school and gain experience in the field of mental health.
Beck has over 5 years of experience working in mental health and substance abuse treatment at various levels of care.
Beck is a graduate of UCLA Extension’s Drug and Alcohol Counseling Program. He is currently studying Clinical Psychology at Antioch University.
Beck puts client centered care at the forefront of his work. He is passionate about helping all people and watching their lives improve.
Goldie Rai has extensive experience in the healthcare industry with Manhattan Beach Professional Group. She received her degree at the California State University at Fresno and was a teacher for a period of time before transitioning to a career as a medical assistant and office administrative supervisor.
Goldie is a fully certified Transcranial Magnetic Therapy Technician and rTMS, which makes her an invaluable asset at Neuro Wellness Spa. She shares Dr. Koo’s passion for helping patients and facilitating their treatment and relief from depression.
Goldie is dedicated to providing the highest level of patient care possible and works tirelessly to make sure that patients have as comfortable of an experience as they can. She is passionate about her work at Neuro Wellness Spa and loves watching the transformation that patients experience as they go through the process of recovery!
Lexie is a recent graduate of UC Irvine, where she earned her B.S. in Cognitive Science and developed a passion for neuroscience and mental health.
Lexie is extremely passionate about helping others. She loves her work as a TMS Technician because she is able to witness patients’ positive transformations as they go through the process of recovery. In the future, Lexie plans to pursue her doctorate degree in Clinical Neuropsychology, so she can continue her work in helping change people’s lives for the better.
In her free time, Lexie enjoys going to concerts and musicals, eating delicious food, and spending time with loved ones.
Yukiko Rome graduated from Sophia University (Tokyo, Japan) with a BA in Sociology. She came to the Untied States in 1998 and earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from California State University at Dominguez Hills. She is Japanese/English bilingual and has extensive work experience in clinical and educational settings.
Yukiko is a fully certified Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation technician. She has had a lifelong interest in nurturing the mind-body connection and is very passionate and excited about working with the new non invasive brain stimulation treatment. Yukiko appreciates a work environment where she has the opportunity to help patients with diverse backgrounds and witnessing patient progress over the course of TMS treatment.
In her free time, she enjoys surfing, practicing yoga and meditation and creating unique ceramic pottery.
Nicole Embree is an L.A. native, receiving her BA and MA in Communication Studies from California State University, Northridge. Her MA thesis focused on young adults and college students experiencing recent mental illness diagnosis, and their different trials with new treatments, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) in particular. Fully certified in rTMS, she has taught upper division college courses in the fields of performance, language, cultural, and intercultural studies, poetry, narrative, experimental art, and public speaking. Nicole has facilitated workshops in public speaking, creative writing, the power of personal narratives and storytelling, movement, and utilizing performance art for social change and empowerment. Her research and writing focuses primarily on developing creative, safe, and collaborative environments for individual growth.
Nicole nurtures a deep love for all things creative, but more than anything she is an impassioned and active advocate within the mental health community having volunteered with both NAMI and DBSA. She considers the opportunity to work at Neuro Wellness Spa as an absolute privilege, and loves the time spent with the center’s patients. Nicole still continues her writing by diving deeper into the intersections of interculturalism, performance studies, disability, mental illness, and human rights. Loves E.T., the Dodgers, and body surfing…but first, coffee!
Hamilton ‘Hami’ Lichtman is the North Torrance center’s therapy dog and is just as passionate about mental health and wellness as the rest of our human staff. Hami is 3.5 years old and is an Australian Shepherd. When he is not in the office helping with patient care, he loves to go swimming and watch Netflix.
Chief Operations Officer
Michael Joly is the COO of Neuro Wellness Spa, with over 20 years of experience in mental health recovery. Mike has devoted his entire career to helping individuals and their families heal and recover from substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
His passion for recovery is unparalleled. He has built a wealth of knowledge and experience that translates across many disciplines.
Mike is actively involved in bringing community awareness to living a positive and healthy lifestyle by working as a substance abuse and prevention consultant to various educational and healthcare systems. His expertise has provided him guest appearances in major media outlets throughout the United States. Mike is also a prominent figure in the South Bay recovery community. He is heavily involved with numerous non-profits and gives back through a variety of impactful organizations. Mike’s experience and love of helping others allow him to bring his own unique brand of passion, enthusiasm and warmth to prospective clients and their families.
Director of Operations
Scott Dohren attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a focus in Business Administration. He also holds a CADC-II certification in addiction studies.
Scott has a tremendous amount of experience with both administrative and interpersonal aspects of behavioral health. His background in the field of behavioral health extends to counseling, mentorship, outreach, admissions, and business development.
Scott’s leadership and passion in the field of wellness has played a fundamental role in the expansion and development of Neuro Wellness Spa.
In his free time, Scott enjoys maintaining a healthy exercise regimen, attending concerts, spending time in nature, and traveling with his fiancé Karen.
Director of Communications
Howard Barker works to engage, educate, and support the South Bay community for Neuro Wellness Spa. He is focused on spreading education and awareness on issues surrounding mental health recovery and has spent the past 8 years working in the mental and behavioral health field. He is passionate about helping individuals in need find their way to healing.
Before joining Neuro Wellness Spa, Amber spent 14 years as a standout in the hospitality industry. Amber has always possessed an empathetic touch with those around her, and her attention to detail allows her to keep compliance a top priority around the facilities.
In her free time, Amber is devoted to yoga, reading, volunteering, and anything involving self-growth. She spends her free time in the sun and loves living near the beach.
Greg Kettelkamp attended Chico State University with a focus on Mechanical Engineering. He found himself drawn to helping people rather than engineering after he left college.
Greg has many years of experience in both business and customer service that make him very effective with both clients and problem-solving day to day business matters. He believes that a personal touch is necessary to make sure that all customers feel they are heard and well taken care of.
In his free time Greg enjoys going to the gym, spending time with family and loved ones, and anything that has to do with sports. The greatest joy in his life is spending time with his long-term girlfriend Jessica, and her daughter Skylar.
Scott McFarland is a native of Southern California. He earned his Bachelors of Science in Finance from San Diego State University and spent much of his free time outdoors.
He is excited to be a part of the Neuro Wellness Spa team where he can blend his passion of helping others with analytical problem solving to help improve functionality of the company. Scott’s hope is to use his experience with mentoring young adults to ensure that patients feel comfortable and a part of the Neuro Family.

Ana joins Neuro Wellness Spa with over 15 years of experience as a Medical Front Office Assistant and Medical Billings Clerk. She is passionate about helping others feel their best.
