Supporting Los Angeles Through Community Crisis

The recent challenges across Los Angeles โ€” from devastating wildfires to heightened ICE enforcement activities โ€” have created widespread stress throughout our city. At Neuro Wellness Spa, we’re seeing how these ongoing events affect people’s ability to focus, sleep well, and feel mentally balanced.

We Stand With Los Angeles

When communities face ongoing trauma, our minds and bodies stay in a constant state of high alert. This can show up as trouble concentrating, restless nights, racing thoughts, and feeling overwhelmed by daily decisions. For many Angelenos, especially those already facing difficult circumstances, these stress responses make everything feel harder to manage.

“The most important emotional response is that many patients are reporting higher rates of anxiety and hypervigilance,” says Anthony Marcaida, a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) for Neuro Wellness Spa who has seen firsthand the emotional toll of recent events in Los Angeles. “For the ones who have been really affected by family members essentially being taken by ICE, within the community there’s collective griefโ€” almost a communal mourning. Within the families themselves, there’s probably some level of self-guilt or survivor’s guilt for the ones who are citizens and witnessing their family members being taken away.”

As our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Martha Koo M.D., and CEO Matthew Zubiller remind us: “In moments of collective stress and uncertainty, our mental well-being matters more than ever. Without mental health, there can be no true physical or social health.” At Neuro Wellness Spa, we help people heal from both the emotional and physical effects of stress through proven treatments like therapy, TMS therapy, and medication when recommended by a psychiatrist.

Building strength during tough times requires community connection. Simple actions like maintaining daily routines, practicing calming techniques, and staying connected with loved ones can help us all cope better. When we support each other’s mental health, we strengthen our entire community’s ability to heal and move forward.

*TMS is FDA-cleared for depression, migraine, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, cigarette cessation, anxious depression, adolescent depression, and chronic post-traumatic/surgical pain. Research indicates that TMS to also be helpful for bipolar depression, anxiety, and cognitive impairment. Other uses for TMS therapy are considered "off-label." However, there is a growing body of research indicating the potential benefits of these off-label applications for a variety of mental health conditions. Please consult with a psychiatrist to learn more about TMS and off-label uses.
