Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, & TMS Therapy for Stress
Stress is our body’s response to any demand or challenge. It can be triggered by various environmental factors, such as work, relationships, financial pressures, or significant life changes.
How we can help treat your stress
Stress is a natural and normal part of everyone’s life. In fact, our bodies are designed to manage low levels of stress. However, prolonged stress can be harmful to our physical and mental well-being.
When stress is unmanaged, it can lead to serious medical and mental illnesses, including heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression. Our psychiatric and mental health experts work with you to identify the underlying environmental issues causing your stress, as well as your mental and physical reactions to these stressors.
We can help you to implement strategies to reduce the stress in your life and to modify your responses to better manage the stress that is inevitable in our lives. Here’s an overview of the treatments we provide that can help you manage stress.
Medication management for stress
While there is no medication used specifically for treating stress, psychotropic medications can treat the depression or anxiety that often result from prolonged, unmanaged stress. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and other medications can be effective in treating both depression and anxiety. At Neuro Wellness Spa, our psychiatrists will conduct a comprehensive mental health assessment and discuss your symptoms to see if medication is an appropriate treatment option for you.
Talk therapy for stress
Our therapists are highly experienced, masters-level clinicians dedicated to helping you manage stress effectively. We will work with you to identify your stressors and your responses to them, employing the therapeutic modality that best suits your unique situation. Since every person and situation is unique, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. At Neuro Wellness Spa, you have the flexibility to meet with your therapist either in-person or virtually, ensuring convenient, accessible support. Our therapy modalities for stress include:
- Mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) incorporates meditation techniques to increase your awareness of how negative thoughts affect your physical sensations. Benefits of MBSR include reduced stress and worrying, improved memory and focus, fewer emotional ups and downs, greater resilience, and improved relationships.
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps identify the relationship between thoughts, behaviors, and feelings to address stress responses and help restructure thinking patterns that can lead to negative thoughts. CBT also uses mindfulness, which has been proven to be an effective tool in lowering stress, anxiety, and chronic pain. Mindfulness focuses on helping you stay in the present moment.
TMS therapy for stress
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy can be an effective treatment for anxiety and depression that often arise from chronic, unmanaged stress. It is FDA-approved in the treatment of anxious depression. TMS therapy is particularly beneficial when traditional treatments like medication or talk therapy have not provided sufficient relief.
TMS is not FDA-approved for the treatment of anxiety alone — however, it is used off-label and is effective in mitigating symptoms associated with anxiety.
Outpatient programs for stress
In most cases, you can manage stress by adjusting your environment and your responses to it. However, if you need a more focused, intensive program, we can help you determine if our partner outpatient programs at Clear Behavioral Health are right for you. Clear Behavioral Health — managed by the same experienced mental health clinicians as Neuro Wellness Spa — offers in-person, virtual outpatient (PHP and IOP), and residential programs for stress management.
We are in-network with nearly every insurance provider.
What is stress?
Stress is the body’s physiological response to pressure from certain events or situations.
While stress is not always negative and can increase awareness and alertness, prolonged stress without relief can lead to chronic stress. This, in turn, can cause physical symptoms and mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. Stress triggers vary for everyone, but some common examples include being bullied, overworking, job loss, marriage or relationship problems, recent bereavement, difficulty in school or work, family issues, busy schedule, or a recent move.
Signs of stress
Some of the most common symptoms of stress include:
- Trouble sleeping.
- Muscle pain or tension.
- Digestive issues.
- Changes in sex drive.

- Moodiness.
- Anxiety.
- Lack of motivation.
- Irritability.
